Most parents have times of self-doubt and confusion about how to deal with certain issues that arise with their children.

It is not easy to raise compassionate, conscientious and self-reliant children in the 21st century. Many factors put strains on the family – like social media, our societal obsession with technology, easy access to drugs and alcohol, single parenting, separation from extended family, divergent views about parenting, etc. To make matters worse, it can be easy to become isolated and think you are the only one having difficulties with your child.

Developing good parent/child communication is extremely important. According to the Advocates for Youth website, “Research indicates that strong family relationships can help children develop self-esteem, resist peer pressure, and act responsibly when making decisions. Effective parent-child communication is the cornerstone of strong and healthy families.”

What happens in a session?

In our sessions together, I provide confidential, skilled and compassionate support to help you find relief and the confidence that you can handle the communication difficulty you are having with your child with ease. During each session, I assist you to listen to your own feelings, emotions and sensations with kindness and curiosity first. This provides the spaciousness needed for your needs and values to reveal themselves through a bodily felt experience. Once you have made the shift to full-body knowing of what matters most to you in the situation, I coach you in how to enter into a dialogue that leads to mutual respect, understanding and resolution.

I draw on my intuition, body awareness practices and many years of training, experience and skill as a Nonviolent Communication practitioner, mediator, restorative justice facilitator and therapist. Sessions are for individuals or partners, and can be done by phone, in person or by Skype.

How many sessions will it take? I don’t want to dish out a lot of money for multiple sessions.

Often you can get what you need in one or a few 50-minute sessions.
